2005 was truly a banner year for the Church of the Oblongball! Beginning with the best draft party to date, an ending with two surprise teams in the Super Bowl. Perhaps the best is yet to come, but in terms of all out fun, this season will be tough to beat.
With almost every year, there is some level transition, and this year was no different. The Motor City Jesus Chryslers turned out to be a 'flash in the pan' franchise, and due to logistics, the team was sold to a patient and eager new owner. Steve, moved the franchise to Innagaddavida, and renamed them to the Spanish Fly Inquisition.
Surprising, is about the best way to explain the play on the field. The Bitchmokeys dominated the first half of the season, looking to be a lock for the Super Bowl; one injury to Priest Holmes changed all that over night! In the Yankee division The Punkrockers started with very little noise, but crept up late to make their first Super Bowl appearance. The shrewd trades by the Hamsterhiders also paid big dividends as they also made their first appearance to the big money game.
Super Bowl was equally exciting, with no clear favorite to win. Having carefully maneuvered through the playoffs the Punkrockers had solid hope to claim the trophy, but it was not to be. The Hamsterhider, becoming the first team o win a Super Bowl with the smash-mouth offense proved that the ground game can make a difference. After three long seasons the trophy was finally returned to the Rebel division.
